2011 – Looking back on a great year

Now that 2011 is in the books I wanted to look back and reflect on the market and break down the market stats as well as my own.  This will be a yearly ritual so that my clients can get to know how I work and where the deals are happening.

The market was surprisingly healthy despite all the doom and gloom about a recession.  Total sales totaled $328,575,000; a figure that has only been surpassed in 2007 at the height of our real estate bubble and talks of Shell Canada opening a new refinery were on the table.  The overall market statistics were pushed up by high end real estate in 2011; with eight houses selling for more than $900,000 compared to only two in 2010.

Last year saw 1,683 houses sold which equated to a 3% increase over 2010. This was mainly driven by the continued low interest rate environment and government incentives for first time home buyers.  Both the above catalysts will be in play in 2012 which will mean another steady year for Sarnia real estate.  My prediction is that prices will remain relatively flat for 2012 due to the excess supply that is still left on the market unsold from 2011.

Thanks to the support of many referrals and a lot of hard work I managed to have my best year ever in real estate.  I represented the best interest of 33 clients which is about 3 times the average Sarnia real estate agents sales with an overall sales volume of $6,694,805.50.  Re/max recognized my hard work in 2011 with an outstanding sales achievement award.
